Radiopharmacuetical

Indications:

  • Screening of high-risk patients with tumors (e.g., breast, lung, prostate or kidney cancer) known to metastisize
  • Detection of early osteomyelitis
  • Detection of stress fractures and other occult skeletal trauma
  • Detection and evaluation of Paget's disease

Patient Preparation

  • Inject 20-25 mCi of Tc-99m MDP or HDP intraveneously 2-3 hours before imaging
  • Instruct patient to drink as much water or fluid as possible and void frequently
  • Have the patient void immediately before imaging

Imaging Techniques

  • Whole body imaging acquired with a dual head gamma camera for anterior and posterior images
  • Camera is peaked at 140 keV with a 15% window for Technetium-99m
  • Images acquired with a 1024 x 256 matrix
  • Total counts should exceed 2.0 million
